Protein metabolism during healing of wounds.

چکیده

Although the problem of the healing of wounds has commanded much interest for a long time, the metabolic changes which accompany wound healing have been seriousiy investigated only since the early work of Howes and his associates (1-4) has appeared. Much of the literature in this field has been concerned with an empirical approach to the acceleration of the healing processes. The lack of quantitatively precise methods for measuring the rates of healing, even in experimental wounds, has impaired the value of much of this work. Nonetheless, a number of metabolic implications can be gleaned from these empirical studies. Only relatively recently have systematic studies been undertaken on metabolism after injury. The biochemical work on wounds and wound healing has been devoted largely to the metabolism of proteins by the injured organism and the determination of the character and metabolism of certain proteins and polysaccharides of the wound area. The latter have been of interest because of their close association with the protein fibers found not only in wound tissue but also in connective tissue in general. The present discussion will be limited to the consideration of some aspects of the metabolism of proteins, and their constituent amino acids, which are influenced by the infliction of various types of trauma.

COMPARISON OF DIABETIC FOOT ULCER HEALING IN DIFFERENT SEVERITY CLASSIFICATION OF NEUROPATHY

Background: Peripheral neuropathy is one of the most common problems in diabetic patients. The increased risk of Diabetic Foot Ulceration (DFU) and amputation would be a complication of diabetic neuropathy. The aim of this study was to compare the DFU healing in different severity classification of neuropathy. Methods: This is a retrospective study that was conducted over a two-year period fro...

TGF-ß1 Latency Associated Peptide Promotes Remodeling of Healing Cutaneous Wounds in the Rat

Background: The process of wound healing involves integrated events including inflammation, granulation tissue formation, matrix deposition and remodeling. Growth factors play a key role in the process. Among them transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) is known to accelerate tissue repair by promoting the synthesis and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins. However, persistence or overact...

Determination of the Effect of Autologous Platelet Gel on Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Wounds Healing

Abstract Background and Objectives Platelet Gel (PG) is rich in growth factors with healing properties and is used in most surgeries to treat various types of tissue defects. In this study, the effect of autologous platelet gel (APG) was evaluated on healing of cutaneous leishmaniasis wounds.   Materials and Methods This randomized clinical trial was done on 15 patients with cutaneous leishm...

The proliferative effect of all-trans retinoic acid during wound healing: A compromised effect in the presence of dimethyl sulphoxide

However, disparate reports in the literature contradict the described beneficial effects of ATRA on wound healing. For example, Kitano et al.17 reported a non-significant effect of ATRA on wound closure in normal mice, but a significant increase in closure in diabetic mice. Furthermore, the continuous treatment of wounds with ATRA, inhibited re-epithelisation18, disrupted collagen production an...

The Role of Probiotics in Management of Infected Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the common reasons for non-traumatic amputation of the lower limbs, which requires proper diagnosis, proper collection of specimens, careful selection of antibiotics, treatment of infection based on the disease condition, quick decision about whether or not surgery is necessary and other types of wound care. Probiotics are suggested as non-pathogenic microor...
